Widnell has been appointed by the NSW Department of Commerce to co-ordinate cost planning disciplines for the provision of 1000 new beds for the Department of Corrective Services, NSW.
This commission follows from an initial study into the program in 2005.
It is intended that the beds be distributed between a new South Coast Correctional Centre in the Shoalhaven district, 160 km south of Sydney, announced by the Mister of Justice in mid September 2006, and containing 500 inmates, together with 250 bed extensions to existing facilities at Cessnock and Lithgow, both regional centres.
